What was it about cannabis that first piqued your interest, and when did that happen?We had been working with this technology in the food industry for about 12 years. As cannabis became more and more visible we realized that our unique technology could potentially be applied to a cannabis flower.  

How did Cannatrol come to life? What is its origin story?

Once we had the revelation that our tech could potentially work with a cannabis flower, we built a small ‘proof of concept’ unit (which was to become our Cool Cure System) and gave it to a medical grower here in VT. After using it, he came back to us and said, “This is a game changer for post harvest – it’s amazing.” I suppose that was the ‘aha’ moment when we knew this would be a success!

What is it about the company that makes it stand out? 

Of course our patented technology is unique in the industry, but beyond that, our team is really the heart of our business. We build the systems by hand in our shop here in Vermont and our sales and customer service teams are amazing. In a world where customers are just numbers and customer calls go to an automated system, we take the time to talk to our customers and really service them. So, great technology and even greater customer service.

What does your typical day look like and what do you enjoy most about your work? 

We are a startup so no two days are alike! Typically I am checking in on production and working with the team to make sure they have the components they need. I’m always looking for ways to improve efficiency. I love the daily challenges of product development and applying our technology in new ways. 

What has been the highlight of your cannabis career to date?

We’ve had so many great experiences and met so many amazing people along the way. Working with legends in the industry like Todd McCormick, Ed Rosenthal and Ken Estes of Grand Daddy Purp has been fantastic. But honestly, going to events and festivals and meeting the people who really benefit from legal access to cannabis, and hearing their stories – that’s been amazing.

Can you give us one cannabis trend that excites you? 

Science! We are talking to more and more growers, both home and commercial, who are applying more science and less mythology to both their grow and post harvest processing. It’s a great trend, and I’m glad that people are questioning the ‘we’ve always done it this way’ attitude.

What is the biggest change you want to see in the sector?

Stop the race to the bottom! Let’s put quality over quantity.

Any advice you would give to someone looking to enter the cannabis industry? 

Trust your instincts, stay true to yourself, and be ready to work really hard.
